Fungal and Ingrown nails are a common problem, and when conservative treatment is not resolving the problem, a partial or total nail avulsion may be required.
This is a procedure which is carried out under local anesthetic, and is relatively pain free. It involves having either a section or the total nail removed, and the application of a strong chemical, Phenol being applied to prevent regrowth of the problematic section of the nail.
Patients are advised not to drive after this procedure and keep weight bearing activity to a minimum for the day of the procedure.The wound will be checked regularly and the appropriate dressings provided.
